Glenn Hegar, Texas State Comptroller, has confirmed that he will address the delegates of the NIRI Southwest Regional Conference on August 23, 2018 at the JW Marriott in Austin.
Mr. Hegar is set to discuss Texas’ State of the State, with an overview of the state’s financial position and trends impacting the state’s overall financial health (including the $11 Billion Rainy Day Fund) as well as future state budget projections. Mr. Hegar will also address state and corporate hot topics such as the benefits of being located in Texas, taxes, minimum wage, employee rights, and paid sick leave.
This session will prove to be most informative to the delegates of this year’s NIRI Regional Southwest Conference, aptly themed “The IR Enigma,” which centers around decoding some of the most compelling complexities of the current IR landscape.
Speaker Biography: Glenn Hegar, Texas Comptroller
Glenn Hegar, Texas Comptroller, serves as Texas’ treasurer, check writer, tax collector, procurement officer and revenue estimator. Mr. Hegar was elected to this office in November 2014. Prior to this role, Mr. Hegar served in the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate, and also served as chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission, which works to eliminate inefficiency in government agencies.
Mr Hegar attended Texas A&M as an undergraduate, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. He then attended St. Mary’s University, earning a Master of Arts and his law degree. At the University of Arkansas, he earned a Master of Laws degree.
Mr. Hegar is a sixth-generation Texan who grew up farming land that has been in his family since the mid-1800s. He is married to Dara Hegar and they have three young children — Julia, Jonah, and Claire.
